Description: Luxurious, comfortable accommodation awaits in this spacious Acton Island cottage on lovely, sought-after Lake Muskoka, near Bala. A good road leads from the mainland onto this popular island. The five-bedroom, four-bathroom main cottage may be rented on its own. For larger groups or extra privacy, the interior of the boathouse may be added to allow additional sleeping space and a second kitchen and living area and bathroom. Relax on the boathouse deck with comfortable sitting areas that offer sun or shade, dive into the deep water, explore Lake Muskoka, or relax by the fireplace. There is something here for everyone.

A large screened porch opens into the main level of the cottage where a well-equipped kitchen awaits, with its gleaming granite countertops and large island with seating. The kitchen opens into a comfortable sitting room with view of the water. A dining room/living room adjoins this room, and the wood-burning fireplace adds ambience and offers of another sitting area with lake view. A laundry room and powder room on this level complete the picture.

The upper level of the cottage has four large bedrooms. The first boasts a king-sized bed with ensuite and lake view; the second has a queen and another lake view. Bunk beds in the last two bedrooms allow various configurations of sleeping, as there are double and single beds in the bunks. A second bathroom can be found on this level.

The teenagers of the group will appreciate the lower level of the cottage with its large recreation room with wide-screen television, enormous sectional couch and another bunk bed. An additional room on this level holds a ping pong table and a small kitchen area for snack preparation with refrigerator, sink and microwave. There is a bedroom with single bed and a four-piece bathroom on this level.

For groups who choose to use the boat house, there is additional sleeping and living space in a beautiful setting with lovely lake views and cooling breezes. The bedroom has large windows offering sunrise vistas, the rythmic lap of the water and the call of the loon. A kitchen has all that is needed to prepare a simple meal or snack, and a comfortable sitting area with propane fireplace completes the romantic setting.

The waterfront of the cottage is accessed by a series of steps that lead to the upper level of the boathouse and its extensive decking. A large teak table beside the outdoor propane fireplace is ideal for evening entertaining. The roof over this area creates a Muskoka Room in the truest sense. There is a choice of sun or shade in the various sitting areas on the boathouse, with comfortable chairs and tables provided.

Steps lead to the lower docks of the boathouse where a covered boat slip and open dock area are ideal for swimming in the deep water. A small, contained area near shore has a depth of about 4 feet and a sand bottom for early swimmers. The interior of the boathouse has two boat slips, a two-piece bathroom, washer/dryer and refrigerator. A small screened area has a bar counter and lake view.

The town of Bala is only minutes away and offers interesting shops, the Bala Falls, The Key to Bala (a famous night spot), Don’s Bakery, and several options for dining out. In October, the Cranberry Festival is the place to be, or take a self-guided tour of the cranberry marsh year round. Explore the Bala Museum, which features Lucy Maud Montgomery (who vacationed in Bala in 1922 and is famous for Anne of Green Gables).

This area has something for everyone and this cottage is the place from which to do it
