Description: Garryowen is a 100 year old
lodge located on scenic 40 km long Lake of Bays
with a view of the lake through towering white
pines. There is a path to the very large dock
with a sandy child-safe access to the water as
well as safe diving from the dock and
spectacular sunset views. Canoes and kayak are
available for lake exploration with optional
rental of bowrider motorboat. There is water or
road access to Dorset (8 km) and Baysville (15
km) - shops, restaurants, antiques, groceries,
Dorset Lookout Tower. Golf or dining at Bigwin
Inn is accessible by road (8 km to ferry by
road).
At the lodge, there are several outdoor sitting
and eating areas - veranda with garden view; and
deck with barbeque and outdoor eating/sunning,
screened porch with dining/relaxing, and firepit
- all with lake views. A large table in the
diningroom by the stone fireplace offers yet
another place to eat and socialize.
This old lodge has the ambiance of a hundred year old log
home, with its original logs in the interior of the
living room, along with its original stone
wood-burning fireplace, and many of the original
antique fixtures and hardwood floor.
For those who want to go back in time, there
is a record player and a nice collection of older
records.
There is also an old upright piano in a
music room for those musically inclined.
It is not difficult, in the living room, to
imagine what it was like in the early 1900s.
In the living room, you can also
access television, VCR, and DVD.
The kitchen
/ dining area, however, has been renovated to
include some of the niceties we have come to depend
upon fridge, propane gas cook top, wall oven,
counters, and dishwasher all tastefully decorated
in pine to blend in with the rest of the house.
There is also an original stone fireplace in
the dining area.
The water is drawn from the lake.
There is a bathroom, three-piece with a
claw-foot tub and shower, on the first floor.
On
the second floor, there are four bedrooms.
The first bedroom has two single beds.
The second has a double bed and crib.
The third has a double and crib.
The fourth has a queen bed and a bed. There
are lots of interesting spots, one being an attic
area with a ping-pong table.
Off the kitchen is a screened-in Muskoka room, from
where you can view the lake and surrounding trees.
Beside that is a sunny deck with a barbeque
and outdoor furniture.
There is a fire pit, and a dock looking out
onto Lake of Bays, with the use of a canoe, kayak
and row boat.
There is an option to rent the 200 hp
bowrider, and an option to be shuttled to venues.
